Happy Labor Day! When we fight, we win

We are celebrating Labor Day with the launch of our brand new website! In addition to a bold new look, this website contains a new FAQ on the Strike Authorization Vote, an updated list of working groups, our 2021 bargaining framework, a Google calendar of union events, and more!

Columbia still has yet bargain over the demands that our unit has overwhelmingly endorsed, including improvements to compensation, healthcare, non-discrimination and anti-harassment, and inclusion of all workers in the unit.

Correction: A previous e-mail indicated that the Strike Authorization Vote (SAV) would extend up to September 28th. The vote will start on Wednesday September 15th at 9:00 am EDT and end on Monday September 27th at 5:00 PM EDT, via electronic and in-person voting.

Support the University of California Student Researchers!

Late last week, administrators at the University of California sent a letter to California’s labor board denying recognition for Student Researchers United--UAW as the Union for all UC Student Researchers.

Sign the petition to protect academic labor rights for ALL workers!

UC’s refusal to recognize Student Researchers United--UAW is an attack on all of us, and could set a dangerous precedent for the academic labor movement. Their transparent attempt to divide academic workers, even those who are compensated for doing the same work in the same labs for the same supervisors, is aimed at weakening the power of our entire union.

This is unacceptable. Sign this petition telling UC that we will stick together until they respect every worker’s democratic choice to form a union and begin bargaining without delay. And check out Elizabeth McCarthy’s take on the injustice of UC’s argument here.

We are stronger when we stand together. Add your voice to the petition and demand UC to drop their obstructionist objections, recognize the right of all Student Researchers to form a union, and sit down at the bargaining table without delay.
