Update on Registration Holds

Hi everyone,

Thank you to everyone who completed our registration hold form last week, it yielded a lot of important information. We know that these are stressful times for all of us, and it is important to acknowledge the extra hardship that some of us are experiencing. The hardship fund, while not able to cover everyone’s needs in full, remains committed to prioritizing allocations based on need and urgency and our fundraising efforts are ongoing. We even started the week with a successful Twitch fundraiser where we raised over $4,000 thanks to the generosity of many streamers and supporters in the Twitch community and beyond.

Through the form responses we have identified two particularly vulnerable groups:  international students that did not register for a resident unit, and international students with an upcoming visa renewal appointment. If you fall within these groups please write to us as soon as possible at: gwchardshipfund@gmail.com

We also want to acknowledge the worries people have about back pay and appointments for next semester. Many working groups are urgently addressing these topics, and we have passed along relevant information from the form to them. If you feel there are more things you would like to emphasize feel free to write to us and we will send it to the relevant working group.

Some important notes:

  • If you succeeded in registering for a residence unit, your status as a student is protected.

  • If you don’t have a registration hold or are not sure (or even if you have *Columbia chaos sometimes works to our best) - try to register in your registration periods (especially for a residence unit). A link to the registration periods by school

  • For most people (other than the ones with upcoming visa renewal appointments) the last registration date is the crucial one. Thus we still have time. If you have external funding or other things that are affected by registration please write to us as soon as possible.

  • Every striking unit member is eligible to apply to the hardship fund! The current round is now open until January 10th 11:59pm. The link to the application form can be found here

Yours always,

The hardship fund committee
