11/12 Bargaining And The Strike Continues
We are closing out another incredible week on strike. We’ve picketed Morningside, JLG Science Center, and CUMC, held rallies and teach-ins, bargained with Columbia, participated in email and phone zapping, organized our colleagues, stopped deliveries, fed the picket line, and we’re not stopping anytime soon.

Update On Voting To Continue Our Strike
The Process Committee has been working closely with the Bargaining Committee and the Organizing Committee to develop a democratic procedure for making collective decisions about the length of our strike and broader strike strategy. This procedure must be consistent with our unit’s bylaws, as well as the UAW constitution.

We are reaching out with more information about finances for strikers. There are two main sources of funds for strikers: UAW strike pay and the hardship fund.

We received word late last night that Columbia wants to bargain today, Friday 11/5 @ 3:15pm. A reminder that attending bargaining counts toward strike hours. The University Starts To Approach Our Solar System
Today—as our strike deadline of Wednesday, November 3 at 12:01 AM looms—the university once again neglected to adequately address our union's needs. However, the threat of an imminent strike did spur some small movement towards meeting our contract priorities.

At the General Body Meeting last night, membership voted to set a strike deadline for November 3. This means that Columbia has until then to meet our demands, otherwise we will start our strike.

Columbia pays their graduate student workers $5,500 to $18,000 below an annual living wage in NYC. Yet, they raised enough money in the past 5 Giving Days alone, a 5-day work week, to fund the entire cost of our union's proposal to provide workers with a living wage and adequate healthcare for the next three years.
